Communication in Construction: Conveying Your Ideas to Our Builders

September 25, 2020 - Arminco inc.

The architecture and construction industry gets bigger with each passing year. The architecture industry has grown by 2.2% each year for the last 5 years. Architectural services was a $317 billion industry by the end of 2019.

Clearly, there is a hunger for architecture, renovation, and design. The problem with this is that not everybody is well-versed with architectural or construction terms. Nearly everybody is capable of having inspired, forward-thinking ideas, however.

Communicating with your construction team is key if you want to bring your visions to life. Here are some tips for communication in construction to help get everybody on the same page.

1. Invite Them To Your House

This is for communication in construction if you're undertaking a renovation. It might seem like an obvious idea, but you won't believe how much of a difference it can make. This when, when you begin your construction communicating, you can refer to specifics instead of vague guesswork.

2. Make Lists

As you plan your building project, you're going to have a lot of ideas. Many of these ideas are going to occur over the span of time. One of the most surefire ways to make sure you get your dream building is to keep an on-going list that you can add to as new ideas come to you.

There are a few additional benefits to keeping a running list of construction ideas, as well. If there are a number of people involved in the design and building process, you can create lists in a shared digital space like Google Drive. This way, everyone involved in the project can create and comment on ideas. The results are then easily shared, as well, so everybody's on the same page.

3. Make A Vision Board

We've all heard the phrase "a picture's worth a thousand words." An architectural picture could be worth ten thousand words, however, as not everybody possesses the specialized language to convey their visions.

To create a vision board for your construction project, there are a lot of options. Even something as simple as Pinterest is more than adequate to bring all of your ideas together into one central space.

Creating a vision board on Pinterest has many of the same benefits as making an on-going list, as well. For one, you can invite other people to contribute your board as well, making the project a much more collaborative process!

Secondly as just as importantly, you can take inspiration from those who've gone before you. You can browse around for other people's construction boards, as well. When you find something you like, you can simply pin it to your vision board and incorporate the idea into your project ideas!

Communication in construction is essential for getting the result you desire. That's why it's such an invaluable resource to have a building team who will actually listen and communicate.
