December 28, 2022 - Arminco Inc.

Did you know that the U.S. dental industry was worth more than $1.5 trillion in 2022? With money like that, this is a lucrative industry but also one that is competitive. Everything about your dental practice needs to stand out, from the services you offer to the design.

The design of a dental clinic needs to be functional and accommodating. Read on to learn about some great design ideas that might be just what you're looking for.

What Goes Into a Dental Clinic?

There are two main areas in dental clinics, the reception area and the procedure area. The reception area should be welcoming and comfortable, as people may have to wait for long periods. There should be some method of entertainment available.

The procedural area is where the work takes place. The area is typically divided into smaller rooms to house multiple patients at once. Each room must accommodate the equipment and multiple personnel.

There are other supporting areas where the design isn't as important but should still be thought out. These include the restrooms, records area, and storage.

3 Tips for Designing a Dental Clinic

Designing a dental clinic is a mix of preference, functionality, and budget. Here are a few helpful tips:

1. Have Appropriate Lighting Everywhere

This may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about design, but good lighting is essential. Good lighting provides many benefits. To the staff of a dental clinic, it makes work easier and safer and reduces headaches and eye-straining. For the patients, it provides a more welcoming atmosphere.

If natural light is available, you should take advantage of it. If this isn't an option, then using efficient soft lighting is best for both the reception and procedural areas.

2. Convey Your Brand

Like most businesses, you probably have a logo with symbols and colors. The design of your clinic should convey that. A clinic that services pediatrics may need a brighter, more playful palate than one that targets higher-income adults.

Aside from the targeted personnel, a good design features the colors and logo of your brand prominently. The most obvious placement is the waiting area, but continuing the pattern throughout is a good idea.

3. Proper Flooring In All Areas

An important and underutilized design aspect is right under your feet. Proper flooring in the reception area could be noise-reducing, such as carpeting. In the areas where procedures are performed, there might be laws dictating what is allowed. This type of flooring must be easy to clean and non-absorbant.
